Go to the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey maps (USGS) for the town or
village you are looking for, then look for small "x's" on buildings, bridges,
etc., with the initals, "BM" beside the "x." BM stands for Bench Mark. The
number printed beside the "x" is the elevation of that spot.  Les Buell
